I grew up on the family farm in Cambridgeshire and have always had a passion for agriculture. Whilst my peers were enjoying their summer school, I was on a tractor until the early hours of the morning. When I left the home farm, I worked as a harvest student at KWS UK. This mainly involved driving farm machinery, but I also gained some key insight into the breeding process leading to different combinable crop varieties, particularly winter wheat. I studied Biological Sciences at the University of Brighton, returning to KWS UK during the summer to scratch my agricultural itch. The more time I spent within the industry, the more I fell in love with the intricacies of farming. I then moved to NIAB to work in the Oilseed Rape and Field Bean DUS programs, eventually taking over the Field Bean DUS trial. I have always had a keen interest in the agronomic aspects of commercial agriculture and therefore sought an opportunity to train as an independent agronomist with Indigro. I pride myself on my attention to detail and critical analysis of research data to ensure my knowledge and advice is current and substantiated.
After leaving school I went on to spend the next decade in academia collecting a Higher National Diploma and Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biology and Environmental Science respectively. Still feeling drawn towards agriculture, I subsequently read for a PhD and undertook post-doctoral studies specialising in weed population dynamics in arable farming systems at the University of Reading.
An opportunity then arose for me to work and advise within the specialist sports turf sector as an independent agronomist in Scotland. This role was to provide good grounding for my future career. I was then offered a technical role working for Syngenta advising clients within its turf and landscape business, which allowed me to travel the world and included four-years living in Singapore.
My love for the agriculture has never waned and being offered a job with Indigro has allowed me to fulfil my lifetime ambition to be an independent agronomist within this great industry.
I have achieved professional qualifications BASIS Amenity Horticulture Turf, BASIS Crop Protection Agriculture and am a FACTS Qualified Advisor.
